* “Cold Slither” originated on the G.I. Joe cartoon, where it was both the name of a rock group put together by Cobra in one of their most insidious (and topical, for the mid-80s) schemes, and their eponymous breakout hit. The Dreadnoks portrayed the band members and lip-synced a song (penned by the multi-talented Destro) containing subliminal messages. Upon hearing it, the listeners, including G.I. Joe team members Breaker, Shipwreck, and Footloose, were under Cobra’s power.

* Like much of G.I. Joe’s stock background music, it was recycled for The Transformers, minus the lyrics, serving as one of two generic source music tracks during the cartoon’s run (although the second, more frequently-played tune, a big-band number of synthesized guitars and trumpets, dates back another year or two to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, at least).

Anna Kendrick Takes on Wicked Men

LCD Soundsystem’s “Pow Pow” music video has been unearthed. It follows beautifully-dressed Anna Kendrick when she goes from one club to another with three guys. “At midnight, she came to collect the souls of the wicked men,” so it was explained. Director David Ayer furthermore said, “In this world, Anna’s sort of this shape-shifter, I guess you could say.”

As for message behind the video, Ayer had this to say to MTV, “No matter how big you are, how important you are in this temporal world of ours, there’s somebody more important. You have to answer for your sins, and that’s a little bit of what this video is about. And the person who sort of represents the power in this video isn’t, like, some hardcore gangster guy, but little old Anna Kendrick kinda being her shy self.”

“Pow Pow” appears in LCD Soundsystem’s third studio album “This Is Happening” which has been on sale since May this year.

Joe’s comment: At the end of the video Kendra takes the wicked men to a Masonic Grand Master with a gavel. The Master Mason will make the punishment fit the crime

Rosario Dawson 1999

In 1999, Dawson teamed up with Prince for the re-release of his 1980s hit “1999.” The new remixed version featured the actress in an introductory voice over, offering commentary on the state of the world in the year before the new millennium. The same year, she appeared in The Chemical Brothers’ video for the song “Out of Control” from the album Surrender. The video features the all-seeing eye.
